Vicky kaushal is an Indian actor who works in Hindi movies. He became active in Bollywood after starring in the crime drama film Gangs of Wasseypur in 2012 and played two minor roles with Anurag Kashyap’s  production house subsequently. In 2015 he got an opportunity to play the lead role in the film Masaan which was an independent drama. Vicky has been honoured with numerous awards at a very young age. Since his childhood his father was a very keen about Vicky’s career, and supported him to achieve success in life. During his school time, he was interested in studying, cricket and watching movies. He never missed a chance to took part in school competitions.


Kaushal was born on 16 May 1988 in a Punjabi family, in a chawl in suburbs of Mumbai.  As of today, he is 30 years old. His zodic sign is Taurus.

Vicky was born in a middle class Brahmin family to the action director of Bollywood and Hollywood, Sham Kaushal and homemaker Veena Kaushal . He has a younger brother Sunny kaushal who is also an actor.  His father is a reputated stuntman and director in Bollywood and his mother is extremely proud of her son as an actor. Vicky’s dad has performed stunts in blockbuster movies such as Dangal, Gunday,Bajirao Mastani, etc. Vicky’s father also has several awards in his name, such as, the Zee Cine Award, Filmfare  Award, IIFA Award etc. Vicky’s  younger brother,  Sunny kaushal also an actor cum assistant director who featured in the films Official CEOgiri in 2018, Love at First Sight in 2017 and Chukyagiri in 2016.  Sunny completed his schooling and then admitted himself in an Chartered Accountant Institute but later, he dropped the plans of becoming a CA and became an actor instead.

Physical description 

Vicky is a tall and a handsome guy who is around 6’3” tall and weighs near about 80 kg. His chest is around 40 inches and biceps are around 14 inches. His eyes are brown in color and hair is black in color.

Vicky completed his graduation from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, after doing his schooling from Sheth Chunilal Damodardas Barfiwala High school in his hometown. During his school time, Vicky used to take part in competitions like skits, dance, dramas and won prizes and appreciation from everyone. He did his bachelor’s degree in Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering and thereafter, he got a job with  telecommunications.


Till half of the college period he never thought about acting but during his industrial visit to an IT company, which was taken by his college faculty, he realised that an office job is unsuitable for him. So, he left the institute and began his career in acting. He decided to assist his father wit his work and joined Kishore Namit Kumar’s acting institute in Mumbai. He worked as an assistant with the famous director Anurag Kashyap in the film Gangs of Wasseypur in 2012. He got his first break as an actor in the film Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana in 2012 in which he played a small role of young Omi. In 2013, he got a lead role of a geek in the short film Geek, which was given to him by famous director Vasan Bala.

In 2015, Vicky got the main role of a Banaras boy, Deepak Kumar, opposite actresses  Shweta Tripathai and Richa Chadha in the movie Masaan, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. The movie did well at the box office and got positive reviews from critics and also won several awards like Screen Award and  International Indian film Academy Award. The film was  shot on the river Ganga and dealt with the cruel punishment for those who do not respect moral traditions.

In 2016, he got an opportunity to perform the lead role in hit movies like Zubaan and Sanju. Zubaan is a Indian musical drama film directed by Mozez Singh and Vicky acted as Dilsher. The story is related to lot of struggle by Dilsher because he played the character of a stammering man. Unfortunately, the movie was a flop but Vicky Kaushal’s performance was excellent and thoroughly lauded.  In 2018, Vicky got the supporting role opposite actor Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in the film Sanju. He performed an excellent role in  Sanju as  Kamlesh who played a role of best friend of Ranbir Kapoor. In preparation for his role in Sanju, Vicky  spent time with Paresh Ghelani who supported him to perform a real and a moving role. The movie did well at the box office and got positive reviews from critics. Moreover, Times of India and India Today considered Kaushal’s role as one of the best roles in this movie.

In 2018, he played the lead role in the movie Raazi as a Pakistani army officer opposite actress Alia Bhatt, who played an undercover RAW agent. Bhatt’s character gets married into a Pakistani family on the request of her father, to  get valuable information about the enemy. The film was a box office hit and Vicky was lauded for his performance.

In 2019, Vicky Kaushal starred as a military officer, Major Vivaan Singh Shergill in the film Uri: The Surgical Strike. This is action film, based on the story of surgical strike of 2016. The movie was extremely successful at the box office.

Vicky has now become a well known celebrity of Bollywood. His upcoming movie in 2020 will be the multi-starrer historical fiction, Takht.
