25 Upcoming Bollywood Movies (2024) You Should Watch for Sure

From mind-boggling action to heart-numbing romance and stress-busting comedy, Bollywood movies are a surprising mix of entertainment, adventure, wonder, and wisdom.

While 2018 was a brilliant year for the Indian Bollywood industry, 2021 seems more promising with movies like ‘Bharat’, ‘Brahmastra’, ‘Super 30’ and more expected to revolutionize the filmmaking landscape and deliver evolved cinema and storytelling.

Here’s a compilation of 24 movies that will end up defining the Indian art of film making this year:

Set to have its theatrical release on Eid-Al-Fitr this June, this Ali Abbas Zafar drama film is a much-awaited adaptation of popular South Korean movie “Ode to my father”. Bharat stars seasoned actor Salman Khan who takes stage alongside the gorgeous Katrina Kaif and follows the life of an Indian man through his trials and tribulations.

Woven into a classic blend of romance, action and patriotism, this film is one for the books especially with regards to its star-studded ensemble cast that includes Shashank Aurora and Disha Patani.

The timeline sees the main character Bharat as a child of eight and through the next several decades of life honoring a promise he made to his father through all the obstacles he faces.

The multitude of shooting locations includes Abu-dhabi, Spain, Punjab and many more. The production will be handled by Bhushan Kumar, Atul Agnihotri, Alvira Khan Agnihotri and the boss-man Salman Khan himself.

THE ZOYA FACTOR

Starring the handsome Malayalam movie star Dulquer Salman and Bollywood’s fashionista Sonam Kapoor, this unique sports-drama is much in same genre as 2016’s hit movie ‘MS Dhoni: The untold story’ and features an adorable romance between the two leads.

In the months leading up to the 2010 Cricket World Cup, Dulquer who portrays the Indian team captain and Sonam plays Zoya, the Team’s event facilitator have interesting encounters leading up to the final game.

Set to release on June 14, this film is a lightly adapted from Anuja Chauhan’s 2008 novel of the same name with direction under first time romedy director Abhishek Sharma.

KABIR SINGH

Co-produced under the T-series and Cine1 studios bracket, this Indian drama film features Shahid Kapoor and “Luststories” actress Kiara Advani in lead roles.

Written and directed by Sandeep Vanga who also made the film’s successful Telugu counterpart, “Arjun Reddy” it follows the dynamic between an alcoholic man and his ex-lover following their split from each other.

Scheduled for theatrical release on the 21st of June, the film’s music composition is under Amaal Mallik who previously released the popular song “Sooraj Dooba Hain” from the 2015 mystery movie “Roy”.

DRIVE

Drive is an Indian Action-thriller film based on the 2011 American movie “Drive” which was directed by Danish filmmaker Nicholas Winding Refn starring “The Notebook” actor Ryan Gosling.

This Hindi parallel venture stars celebrities Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez with supporting roles undertaken by Sapna Pabbiand Vikramjeet Virk with production under famed media personality Karan Johar and direction by Tarun Mansukhani.

According to some reports, this movie enters a league of its own having gained recognition to be the first Indian film shot in Israel. Under the wings of Musical mind Tanishk Baagchi, the film is set to remake famous songs like Janabe Ali from 2004 crime-thriller “Baardasht” and “Tauba Tauba” from Vivek Oberoi’s sci-fi pic “Kaal”.

JABARIYA JODI

Starring Parineeti Chopra and Siddarth Malhotra, this film is set around the real-life Bihari traditon of capturing and kidnapping grooms by their in-laws before their wedding in order to forego the payment of dowry.

The film was planned and proposed by native Bihari script writer, Sanjeev K Jha who wanted to tell the world the story of this peculiar yet intriguing custom from his homeland.

Production will be under Television producer Ekta Kapoor, Shoba Kapoor, Shailesh Singh and is set to be directed by 2013’s “Queen” director Prashanth Singh. Announced to release on 12th of July, this film will recreate many famous Hindi songs under composition by Tanishk Baagchi.

SUPER 30

This Indian biographical drama follows the life of famed mathematician Anand Kumar from Patna who went on to capture a global audience through his programme Super 30 which coaches IIT aspirants from underprivileged sections of our society.

Known to be Phantom film’s last production, this film features actors Hrithik Roshan and Mrunal Thakur with direction under “The Lunchbox” director Anurag Kashyap. The film scheduled to release on 29th July features musical composition under Ajay-Atul and is jointly produced under the Reliance entertainment and Nadiawala Grandson Entertainment label. 

BATLA HOUSE

This highly anticipated movie portrays the real-life events and happenings of the Batla House terrorist case against Indian Mujahideen terrorists in Delhi on 19th September 2008.

This arrest resulted in the capture of five suspected terrorists and the unfortunate death of Delhi Police Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma with several accusations thrown from political and activist organizations.

This Nikkhil Advani directorial features former model John Abraham and Indian soap opera star Mrunal Thakur as the leading actors and is set to have an Independence Day release this August.

MISSION MANGAL

Co-directed by “Padman” director R Balki and Jagan Shakti, this 2019 drama film features the journey of a group of scientist and researchers at the Indian Space Research Organization and their contribution to Mangalayan (The Mars Orbit Mission) which highlighted India’s maiden interplanetary voyage.

Yet another Independence day release, this film stars a glamorous cast of sensational actor Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan and “Okkanmani” actress Nithya Menon. It is a joint production venture under labels Fox Star studios and Cape of Good Hope films.

CHHICHHORE

Literally translated from Urdu as “Vulgar”, this coming-of-age romcom drama revolves around the lives of some engineering college students from youth to the rest of their lives.

Shot in IIT Bombay, this film stars “Kedarnath” actor Sushant Singh Rajput and the beautiful Shraddha Kapoor with direction by “Dangal” director Nitish Tiwari and production under the SajidNadiawala production house.

MADE IN CHINA

This upcoming Indian comedy drama follows the life of a failed Gujrati businessman who stumbles upon the most genius business idea of his life far away from his home in a foreign city.

Directed and co-written by famed “Wrong side Raju” director Mikhil Musale and Niren Bhat, this film is set to release on 30th august later this year.

Produced under the Maddox films Bracket with producer Dinesh Vijan, this talented cast ensemble includes Rajkumar Rao, BomanHirani and Mouni Roy as main characters in a story with main shoot locations in Ahmedabad and Delhi.

GOOD NEWS

This upcoming light-hearted romedy features the life of a married couple who are trying to have a baby starring Akshay Kumar and ‘Bebo’ Kareena Kapoor in leading roles.

Well-known Punjabi artist, Diljit Dosanjh and “MS Dhoni: the untold story” actress Kiara Advani both sport supporting roles with debut director Raj Mehta. The film scheduled to release on 6th September is a joint production venture by Karan Johar, Viacom 18 Motion pictures and Akshay Kumar.

BHANGRA PAA LE

This Indian comedy drama motion picture features “Sunshine music tours and travels” movie actor, Sunny Kaushal who is the brother of “Raazi” hero Vicky Kaushal and South Indian actress Rushkar Dillon.

This RSVP dance franchise film produced by Ronnie Screwala and directed under debutante SnehaTaurani is set to release on 1 3th September. Supporting stars include MTV Roadies winner Balrang Singh Khera, Radhika Bhangria and acclaimed Hollywood show “charmed” actor Mark Bennington.

DREAM GIRL

Starring “Vicky Donor” actor AyushmannKhurana and “Sonu ke tittu ki sweety” actress Nushrat Barucha, this “dromedy” features the story of a man who acts as Seeta in renditions of the Ram-Leela play.

Jointly produced by dynamic duo Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor and Aashish Singh under their label Balaji Motion pictures, this film is directed by acclaimed television writer Raaj Shaandilyaa.

JHUND

This 2019 sports, biographical film follows the life of now retired sports teacher, Vijay Barse who coached street kid’s soccer in his neighbourhood to prevent them from falling into wrong paths like drugs and crime.

His NGO initiative ‘Slum soccer’ is responsible for the holistic development of several underprivileged and the annual nationwide homeless world cup for the sport.

Evergreen actor Amitabh Bachchan portrays Mr. Barse in this film directed by NagrajManjule and produced under the bracket of T-series and Aapat. Scheduled to release 20th September, this film follows in the footsteps of other inspiring sports genre movies like “Chak de India” and “BhaagMilkhaBhaag”.

COMMANDO 3

This Indian action-thriller movie franchise follows the life of an Indian Army-man through his struggles and triumphs on his quest of resilience and inimitable strength.

Set to release on 20th September this year, Commando 3 is the third part to this spirited action sequence starring Vidyut Jamwal and a maiden performance by Angira Dhar.

Supporting cast members include “Hasee toh phasee” actress Adah Sharma and “Shaitan” actor Gulshan Deviah with production and direction by Vipul Shah and Aditya Dutt respectively. 

MARJAVAAN

Directed by MilapZaveri, this action thriller film stars talented names like Siddarth Malhotra, “Humshakals” actor Ritesh Deshmukh and Disney India prodigy Tara Sutaria.

The recently released first look poster hints at a sensational dramatic plot .Actors Siddarth Malhotra and actor Rakul Preet Singh who share a screen here have proved their great chemistry in a previous onscreen performance of their film ‘Aiyaary’ last year.

THE SKY IS PINK

This much awaited biographical film follows the life of Aisha Chaudary who after being diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis was given a year to live.

Directed by “Margarita with a straw”director Shonali Bose and produced under the RSVP label in association with Roy Kapur films and Purple pebble pictures, this movie stars popular icons Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar and Zaira Wasim of the hit film “Dangal”.

HOUSEFULL 4

With the claim to be the most expensive comedy movie in Indian history, this is the fourth installment of the series to be directed by Farhad Samji and produced under the

Nadiawala Grandson entertainment house.A tentative release date has been set for Diwali later this year with speculation that this movie is undera horror comedy genre. This film stars Akshay Kumar, Kriti Sanon in lead roles accompanied by famous personalities from across the Indian film industry like ‘Bahubali’ actor Rana Daggubati. 

STREET DANCER

Following in the footsteps of legendary dance movies like the step-up series and ABCD, this dance film is produced by Bhushan Kumar under the T-series bracket and directed by Remi D’Souza. ]

Starring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor who also previously acted in a similar genre movie ABCD 2 together, is said to release on 8th November.It shows great promise as a jam-packed with limitless talent film based on the life of coming-of-age street dancers in India.

TAANAJI: THE UNSUNG WARRIOR

Scheduled for world-wide release on 22nd November, this much-awaited historical drama celebrates the life of Taanaji Malusare, a 17th century military figure who was known for his devotion and unflinching loyalty to the Maratha empire under the reign of King Chatrapati Shivaji.

Starring celeb power couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol and Nawab Saif Ali Khan, this film will be producer Bhushan Kumar’s maiden venture into a period drama atmosphere with a 150 crore budget as the cherry on top. 

DIL BECHARA

This upcoming romantic tragic-comedy directed by Mukesh Chhabra and produced by Fox Star Studios India, is based on the teen bestseller “The fault in our stars” by John Green.The story revolves around the sensational love story between a cancer patient and a cancer survivor and their journey through life together.

The film features well-known actor Sushant Singh Rajput and debutante Sanjana Sanghi and music by the legendary music director A.R Rehman with music rights registered to Sony Music India. The music composition is going to be handled by Amitabh Bhattacharya and A R Rehman. The film is stated to release on 6th December 2018. 

PAGALPANTI

This Indian rom-com features a glamorous cast ensemble including actors like Anil Kapoor, Pulkit Samrat, John Abraham, IlleanaD’Cruz and several other multitalented personalities.

Directed by Anees Ameba, this much-anticipated movie is expected to hit theaters on 6th December this winter.The film is based on an Indian superstition about ‘Shani’ Saturn who is considered the harbinger of bad luck as the planet hovers above these ‘sinners’ ensuring their doomed fate.

PANIPAT

This 2019 historical period drama is directed by Oscar nominated and national award winning director AshutoshGowariker. Gowariker is renowned for his path-breaking work in films like “Jodha Akbar” and several others.

Starring “Two States” actor Arjun Kapoor, KritiSannon and Sanjay Dutt with art direction by Nitin Chandrakant Desai and Neeta Lulla as costume designer, the movie is expected to hit the screens on 6th December. The music department is headed by Ajay Atul and Javeed Akthar for composition and lyric writing, respectively.

BRAHMASTRA

Directed by Ayan Mukherjee and produced by Karan Johar, this fantasy thriller is part one of a trilogy starring Amitabh Bachchan and celeb power couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.

Ayan Mukherjee and Ranbir Kapoor previously worked together in the super hit movie “YehJawani Hai Deewani” and when two prodigies like them come together, you’re bound to see some great cinema.

The film is said to have historical, supernatural and fairy-tale elements woven into its storyline.
