Honda Activa is a brand which needs no introduction. It guarantees quality in its name itself! To stake it’s claim in the 125-cc segment, Honda launched the Activa 125 cc scooter silently on its website.
The new scooter comes in 3 variants and 6 color options within a range of 61,185 to 66,750 Rupees and returns an average fuel efficiency of 59 kmpl.Brake types are the major differentiating factor within these 3 models.
It makes 8.52 bhp of power at 6500 rpm and 10.54 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm.The fuel tank capacity is more than 5 liters. This means you don’t need to refuel often even if this is your daily commute option.
While this is just a model year update, the scooter gets a lot of new and improved features and here's everything that you need to know the 2018 Honda Activa 125.
Appearance Styling and Practicality:
From the front view, you may feel it’s a modification of the Honda Aviator. Activa 125 comes with LED head lamps as standard fitment. This increases the visibility. Instrument cluster is a combination of digital and analog displays. You also get a service due indicator. Ignition, horn and indicator switches are the same as that of the old activa. There is a new switch which can be used to open the seat, because of which you don’t need to remove the key to open it.
However, fuel filler cap is inside the seat unlike the Jupiter. The utility box below the seat is very practical and you can easily store your helmet therein. You also get a charger as an added accessory. This is a great addition with a very miniscule extra investment. Seat cushioning is adequate and makes you feel comfortable. Pillion seating position is also very comfortable with a decent footrest. The metal body of this new scooter is more durable than the fiber body of any other vehicle.
Ride and Handling:
Telescopic suspensions in the front enhances the ride quality. Braking duties are handled by either a 130 mm drum or a 190 mm disc brake for the front wheel and 130 mm drum brake at the rear, assisted by Honda's combi-braking system (CBS). You also have an option of alloy wheels which you don’t get in the regular model. Power delivery is linear with this scooter, but the engine starts to sound after 70 kmph. The 2018 Honda Activa 125 runs on 12-inch wheels up front and 10-inch ones at the back. Suspension on this are telescopic front forks and 3-step adjustable rear suspension.
In addition to boasting of new features and cosmetic enhancements, 2018 Honda Activa 125 has now also become dearer with the price tags seeing an upward revision of up to Rupees 2,116.
The updated Activa 125 is part of the manufacturer's plan to introduce 18 updated products this financial year, while an all-new two-wheeler is also in the pipeline for this fiscal.
Sales figure:
The list of top 10 best-selling scooters in August 2018 is clearly dominated by Honda Activa with 3,10,851 units. The number is bigger than remaining 9 products on this list, showing why calling any gearless product Activa is a common practice in India.
The huge sales number is challenged by TVS Jupiter, scoring the second position with 79,223 units and fetching a large share for the brand in total numbers. Suzuki Access is the third best-selling product with 48,436 units.
The premium 125cc offering is well priced and superbly designed to address the audience of all age groups.
Final Verdict:
The new Activa 125 is the most stylish and the best-selling scooter in India. LED headlamps and service due indicator are the best additions. The Engine of the new activa is smooth and efficient. It scores very well on the practicality. However, an external fuel lid would have been more appreciated. At a price point of 70000 rupees the new activa 125 is a bit pricier.
A major problem faced by many of the customers is while starting the scooter in the morning at any given season. It takes time to start. Most of the disappointed customers have faced problems while buying and servicing because of the overutilized after sales facility.Engine overheating is also one of the common problems.
Not that it’s a bad choice, but against the competitors like the Access and Jupiter, this scooterdoes use its brand value for higher sales.
