Gone is the “Brio with boot” design of the amaze. The all new amaze looks aggressive and sporty. Moreover, its completely changed from the inside. The company has sold almost 3.4 lakh units of this model since its introduction in 2013. Its priced between 5.9 to 9.12 lakhs INR. The amaze entered the Indian market in 2013. Back then the Amaze looked similar to the brio hatchback from the front. This was the company’s first diesel car in India.
This car made a record of 7,163 units sales in February 2015. The sub-4-meter sedan received an update in 2016 which included a new grille, dashboard design, tail-lamps, and a 5-speed automatic gearbox. However, it was in 2018 that the car received a major facelift. Almost 85,000 of these units were sold in just 11 months of the launch. In the FY 2018-19 the new amaze contributed 46% of the total Indian sales.
The Amaze is 3.9 meters in length, 1.6 meters wide and 1.4 meters in height. Ground clearance of the amaze is 170mm and the usable wheelbase is 2470mm. These dimensions mean that the car is now 5-mm longer, 15-mm wider and the wheelbase has been extended by 65-mm. The design language of the new amaze is completely different. It now looks like a mini city from the front. The bonnet from the side view looks sharp.
The traditional chrome bar just looks fantastic. The c-shaped tail lamps would remind you of the WR-V. The body kit looks amazing. Tapered edges on the bumper give it a bit sporty look. The car sits on 15-inch wheels which are bit on a smaller side. The shark fin antenna gives it that premium sedan feel. The boot space is of 420-liters which has been increased by 20-liters from the previous cars. A 14-inch spare wheel is housed inside the boot. LED DRL’s of this car are stunning.
The integrated ORVM’s complement the aggressive design of this vehicle. There’s a nice line which runs from the bonnet to the boot. The alloys are also perfectly designed to suit the car. Tail section of the car is completely new. The bumper looks even more aggressive. All new platform of the car has definitely increased the cabin space inside.
The new cabin of the Amaze feels very nice to be in. It’s a huge leap forward from the older cabin. It feels more premium. The glove box material quality is that great and there are a few cheap plastics around. The A/C vent and the touch-screen infotainment system are beautifully angled from the dash. Quality of the materials used in the steering are great. Left side of the steering contains switches for the infotainment and right side contains the buttons for cruise control. The instrument cluster is well sorted and consists of two dials and one multi information display. Touch-screen infotainment system works well. It now comes with apple car play and android auto.
However, there are only 4-speakes available. There are two USB charging points and a 12-volt charging socket below the dash. There are cup-holders and bottle holders all over the cabin. The doors can also house 1-liter bottles very easily. The glove box is big enough. Because of the increase in the width, the car feels spacious in the inside. The buttons could have been removed. However, all that they could do is ease your job.
The dual tone color scheme looks absolutely fantastic. The under-thigh support, lower back support from the seats is great. The cushioning is also very thick. There are side bolsters to keep you in the right driving position while driving. The finishing on the A/C controls is good and the overall quality of materials used inside the cabin is decent. Knee room and head-room at the back is adequate for passengers of even 6 feet height. Under-thigh support is good, back-rest angle is perfect for all drives. Also, there is a 12-volt charging point at the back-seat. 3 people can easily sit in comfort in this cabin. However, the head-rest for the rear passengers is integrated and it cannot be adjusted. The rear armrest houses 2 cup-holders as well. The door openings are wide and big, this would make it easy for the elderly passengers to get in and out.
The boot space is of 420-liters which is very large. This makes it a very convenient car for the airport trips. The A/C vents are surrounded by chrome linings which is a premium touch. There is a nice piano black finish on the dashboard which looks premium. The quality of plastics used is also very decent. There is only a tilt adjust for the steering wheel, telescopic adjustment is given a miss. There are no rear A/C vents however, company claims that the A/C unit is same as that of the Honda City and yes it pretty well does the job of cooling every corner of the car instantly. There are no automatic rain sensing wipers as other rivals.
The Amaze comes with an option of 1.4-liter diesel engine and 1.2-liter petrol engine. The petrol engine makes 88.76 bhp at 6000 RPM and 110 Nm of torque at 4800 RPM. The diesel engine makes 98.6 bhp at 3600 RPM and 200 Nm of torque at 1750 RPM. The engine feels very punchy and it redlines above 4000 RPM. The clutch is on the lighter side and the manual gearbox is sleek. Top speed of this amaze is 140 kmph. Both the petrol and the diesel motors have the option of an automatic gearbox. The diesel CVT works wonders and it is probably the best in the compact sedan. The diesel engine has no low-end lag. The mid-range of the car is very powerful.
CVT gearbox on the Amaze is the best of the lot, be it with the petrol engine or the diesel. Moreover, this is the only car to offer a Diesel CVT. Power inside this one is less than the diesel manual, this is done to make the car more refined. The sports mode locks the revs to 2000 RPM. Even though the power figures are smaller the diesel manual, they are bigger than the petrol. It doesn’t feel sluggish in anyway. There is always a healthy range of power available.
If you are gentle on the throttle, the progress is very smooth and refined. It just feels a breeze to drive it with gentle throttle inputs. This engine along with that CVT is great for city commute. Surprisingly, the sedan feels very quiet in normal driving conditions. This is majorly because of the sound deadening techniques used under the hood.
The petrol manual version of the amaze is punchy, and it feels interesting to drive. The engine can rev up to 6500 RPM. It has a very moderate midrange and a very powerful high rev range. The ride quality of the new amaze is superb. It absorbs all the bumps very well. Highway stability of this vehicle is also superb. There is no engine sound up to 4000 RPM. Gear shifts are not frequently required. The car has a very slick shifting gearbox. Highway stability of the amaze is great. The brakes of the Amaze are perfect.
The petrol automatic is extremely refined, feels good to drive. Very urgent and high throttle inputs can confuse the CVT. However, if you are really keen on driving sportily then the sport mode and paddle shifter do a great job of making driving a fun!
It offers Dual Airbags so that the passengers remain safe in case of a collision. Antilock braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution is present to prevent the wheels from getting locked in case of heavy braking.
And that’s standard to all the variants. ISOFIX childseat mounts are given which are really very important and they are very useful for customers having small kids. This car offers first in class paddle shifters which makes the drive feel a bit sportier. The new Amaze is equipped with Reverse parking cameras and sensors for a safe reverse maneuver.
If you are planning to buy this vehicle for a city cab usage. Then this would be the best companion you could ever have. Being a sedan, it can be considered under the “premium cab” category. Moreover, the car offers all the premium features that your passengers would ever expect. Also, this one has a class-leading boot space.

Fuel efficiency and overall performance of this car are great, and they are the best in class. Hence this can also be the next most famous “Ola out-station” vehicle.
Design wise, the Dzire and other sub-4-meter sedan’s look like just an extension of a hatchback, but the Amaze is an all new car! It offers more space at the backseat in terms of knee room headroom and shoulder room in comparison to the Dzire.
The interiors of the Dzire feel more premium because of the silver accents and chrome inserts placed all-over. However, the Amaze is quitter than the dzire. For everyday driving condition, the Amaze feels more powerful and refined. Also, its more fuel efficient.
The Honda Amaze is based on an all new platform and comes with a completely changed design language. It has got better with every possible thing. The boot space of this Honda is of a class leading 420 liters. The interiors are now even more spacious, thanks to the increased dimensions. There is also a Diesel CVT on offer. Performance of the Amaze is just unparalleled, may it be any engine and gearbox combination. The petrol motor auto is ideal for the customers who would want to use their cars occasionally and would expect some thrill out of the performance.
The smaller diesel engine is ideal for fleet owners and urban cab owners like Ola and Uber. The diesel CVT is best for city driving and daily usage. It would give almost no effort to the driver keeping the cabin an extremely cool and happening place. The only downside is that the automatic version is not available in the top of the line model which excludes many features like the touchscreen infotainment system.
