Top 10 Football Teams in the World You should know (2024)

football team

Off to a bitter start here. A little declaration Sorry to all the Arsenal and Manchester United fans out there but this list is for the best football teams in the world, according to FIFA world cup ratings. Not the best teams ever to exist, I know, I’m sorry. Maybe we’ll write a list about that as well in the future (who knows?)

Well, then. The FIFA (or Fédération Internationale de Football Association, for the people who only speak oyster) is an international body that is recognized by the world as being the foremost authority in organizing world level events of football, beach soccer, and (you guessed it) futsal.

While this article will be fairly shallow as it doesn’t open a thought-provoking conversation about the depth of the important role that futsal plays for humanity’s progress, it does talk about the second favorite topic of the world, football. These teams are based on the no. of points they’ve managed to secure across their careers, giving them the pedestals based on their overall performances and not how many cups they’ve won.

This list discusses the top teams with some of the best players who are currently running the football fields. It is a list based on the federations picks for the top teams and does not reflect an all-time fan favorite picks of teams by any means. I mean, have you seen how people react when you tell them that their team isn’t the best of all time?

Here’s the list of Best football teams in the world:

Belgium

Just like their beer, Belgium takes their football quite serious and tasteful (Belgian ale is the best, fight me!). While they never won a single world cup (all of them went to Brazil) they’ve had a tremendous performance throughout their history of playing the game.

Currently they are tied in for first place with France (Oysters, hehe) and could lose the top position any second now. They had players with the likes of Paul Van Himst, Jan Ceulemans and Jean-Marie Pfaff.

These were some of the most seasoned players ever with a great track record across their careers. Plus, the Belgian Ale.

France

France football team

Well not nearly as inventive of an innovation as the French tanks in WWII (you’ll get the joke or your won’t). Just like their cinema their FIFA rankings are just the same as their cinema, its stands second in the world.

All the needless French bashing aside, France has been one of the most influential teams in the world of football. While their governing body might sound like someone is about to sneeze, FFF…rance have had the honour of winning two world cup trophies (rest, all of them went to Brazil).

Sporting players such as Zinedine Zidane, Didier Deschamps and Antoine Griezmann this team stands second best to no one.

A history envied by most football teams in terms of the richest football talents and great coaches France was always destined for greatness in the halls of football glory. Their glory days are not over as they managed to score another world cup trophy in the 2018 against Croatia.

Brazil

Brazil Football Team

A country where even a statue of Jesus will block you from scoring, Brazil is considered to be one of the best football team across the world with legends like Ronaldinho, Pele, Kaka and the list would go on if I wanted it to but you get the point. Brazil is synonymous with football.

Winning their first FIFA world cup trophy as back as the 1950s, Brazil cemented themselves as a serious football contender to…to contend with. They’re so serious about their passion for football that they don’t even have the time to come up with last names for their best players.

With a whopping 5 world cup trophies under their belt, this country never seems to get enough with them making making it to the quarter finals even in the 2018 world cup (which was a royal mess to be honest). Hoping to see a better performance the next time, as there are never enough trophies under a country like Brazil.

Croatia

Croatia football team

Croatia (or Crow-Asia) seems to making some ground for themselves in this game of kickball. While the team has never won a single world cup and shy from their 2nd place finish in 2018 FIFA world cup, their best was a 3rd place in the 1998 world cup.

They are making the strides necessary to one day be amongst the best of the best. They’re performance in this year’s world cup was truly phenomenal and they are absolutely worthy of being in this list of teams.

Finally getting the recognition that they deserve, this team has sported players with the likes of Luka Modrić, Mario Mandžukić and Ivan Rakitić – all three of which shined their way through the FIFA held competition. Bravo guys, Bravo!

Uruguay

Uruguay football team

Sharing their name with a particular Panda’s Kung fu teacher, this South American country does what all South American countries do best, Football (Sorry Merica, its football on this side of the wall, thank you).

Winning their first cup as back as 1930 FIFA world cup, this team has shown itself to be one of the most talented football teams in the world. Their roster consists of player like Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani and Diego Godin – all who have performed quite well across their careers.

While they did get their heinies handed to them in the 2018 world cup, that too by France of all countries. They did make it to the semi-finals, unlike many other teams on this list. Uruguay has consistently giving the world some of the best players that we know. Seeing the way they play, any day now – they will have their second cup. Unless Brazil decides to take the rest that is.

England

The Queens land takes football a little too seriously, I mean look any Vinnie Jones. While England has not had the best track record in the last few years, they’ve been one of the best if not the best football teams in the world. That’s a fact now, lads.

Holders of a single world cup trophy in year of our lord 1966, they’ve been a strong contenders to all of the teams on this list. I mean they should be forgiven of any doubt simply because they gave the world, David Beckham (what a cutie!). Some of the best players in Europe and the world, such as Wayne Rooney, Jamie Vardy, Jamie Carragher were straight out of England.

The Queens land has come ever so close to winning the world cup so many times now. It’s almost a bitter feeling to see them get to the finals or the semi finals as they’ve lost many-a-times exactly when it seemed like they’ll finally win, again. But they just don’t. Also, because…Brazil.

Portugal

Portugal Football Team

The team that Cristiano Ronaldo played football for, Portugal is amazing. Like seriously, this country has given the European leagues some of its best players, including the legendary Ronaldo. The country that has reached the FIFA world cups about seven times and not won a single time. They’ve been victims of sheer bad luck in that case, since, talent is clearly not a problem.

Some of the best players from Portugal are Luis Figo, Pepe. Rui Patricio and Best (Yes, literally, not making that up). With a player named Best, it high time that they won the world cup, any day now.

Switzerland

Switzerland football team

The Swiss are mostly known for their sharp little multi-purpose knife and their sharp play in the game, every World Cup season. This is a team which has qualified for the quarterfinals on several occasions (namely 1934, 1938 and 1958). The Swiss are known for their technically great suite of players. Xherdan Shaqiri, Granit Xhaka and Valon Behrami being amongst the top few to grace the roster of this multi talented team of players.

The team has remained in the top 10 teams in the FIFA world cup series for years now. The favourite sport of the country is football itself, which shows you the dedication of the country to the craft. Some of the best players for the European leagues come from this country of dedicated players, but most importantly devoted fans.

Spain

Spain football team

Spain is another one of the elite football leagues in Europe. Having one world cup under their wing makes the team a force to be reckoned with. It is seriously that good. Brazil won every time because they were marginally better than countries like Spain, England and France.

Which is nothing but a compliment, considering how good the Spanish football team is. There is a true pedigree for great football players coming out of this country as it has given players such as Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Xavi and Gerard Pique to the world.

These are amongst some of the top billing characters in all of football as a sport. Some players like Lionel Messi were so bankable at one point that they were made to be the face of video games and advertisements for the FIFA sport itself.

Denmark

Denmark football team

The Danes have a history of being tough and strong in all forms of physical activities. Their proclivity towards physical excellence in reflected in their football team completely.

Every player is energetic and plays to win. Even though they have not been able to secure a world cup trophy till date, they’re intention or talent were never to question. Players with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Kasper Schmeichel, Andreas Christensen and many more such football talents have graced the halls of this football club.

Conclusion:

Those were the top ten football team according to the number of point they secured in FIFA matches. Regardless of the fact that some might not have secured trophies, these teams have made it here simply because they’re all excellent. Most countries aren’t even able to qualify for the sport while these countries unanimously win each year.
